Elephants In The Zoo

On June 1, 2023, the Cottbus Zoo held the grand opening of its new elephant house for two Asian elephants, "Don Chung" and "Sundali".

Zoos usually provide a varied and balanced diet for their elephants, which typically includes hay, grains, fruits, and vegetables.

The specific type and amount of feed may vary based on the age, health, and individual needs of each elephant.

Elephants also require a lot of water, and zoos ensure that they have access to clean drinking water at all times.

Additionally, some zoos may provide special treats or supplements, such as vitamins or minerals, to ensure that their elephants are receiving all the necessary nutrients they need to stay healthy.

Animal behavior experts at Nottingham Trent University and Harper Adams University examined more than 100 previous research papers that explored the various ways in which visitors influence the behavior of more than 250 species in zoos.

The findings showed that elephants responded particularly positively to visitors, with increased foraging and reduced inactivity in the presence of large numbers of visitors.

Cottbus Zoo is a popular tourist destination located in Cottbus, a city in the eastern part of Germany.

The Cottbus Zoo was founded in 1954. Today, there are 1,000 animals of 150 different species living here.

The zoo's 33 employees take care of the animals, including rare and endangered species such as Amur leopards, Siberian tigers, and African elephants.

The zoo covers an area of 25 hectares and has a variety of themed areas, including an African savannah, an Asian jungle, and a South American rainforest.

Visitors can enjoy a range of experiences, including guided tours, animal feedings, and interactive exhibits.

The Cottbus Zoo also has a strong focus on conservation and education, with several programs aimed at raising awareness about wildlife conservation and protecting endangered species.

It is a must-visit destination for animal lovers and families alike.

Many famous zoos in the world have elephant houses.

Some of the most well-known include the Smithsonian National Zoological Park in Washington D.C., the San Diego Zoo in California, the Bronx Zoo in New York City, the Toronto Zoo in Canada, the London Zoo in the United Kingdom, the Melbourne Zoo in Australia, and the Singapore Zoo in Singapore.

These zoos are known for their exceptional care of elephants and offer visitors the chance to see these magnificent animals up close in spacious and natural habitats.
